Paphos Youth Theatre

The youth theatre opened its doors on the 18th January 2006. When I came to live in Cyprus in August 2005, I was amazed that there were no local youth theatre groups for my children to get involved in. As a professional actress, drama teacher and drama therapist, I was well aware of the value of drama and was disappointed to find that it was also not part of the school curriculum. We decided, therefore, to established the first English speaking youth theatre in Paphos.
The rationale for the theatre group was therefore to provide a resource that children could exploit in order to develop themselves. Our aim is to build confidence, inspire creativity, improve diction, stimulate the imagination, improve the English of non-English speakers and generally to develop the skills needed in life; listening, observing, role-play, awareness, to mention but a few. Our objective is to enable these children to acquire these various skills through having fun.
We accept students from age 4 to 18, with young adults joining us, in order, to prepare for drama school and university. At Paphos Youth Theatre we follow a very structured scheme of work which is tailored to the various age groups. Students are able to take drama, dance and singing classes, as well as, LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) Examinations and other higher-level awards. All students are encouraged to get involved in all the projects on offer throughout the year.
